What is Journey Together?

Journey Together card list: Pokémon Journey Together Elite Trainer Box

Journey Together is all about the bond between trainers and their Pokémon. It was the first modern set to bring back Trainer’s Pokémon, a type of card many fans remember from the Gym Heroes and Gym Challenge sets of 2000. These cards carry the trainer’s name, such as N’s Zoroark ex or Lillie’s Clefairy ex, and work with support cards for that trainer.

Four trainers lead the set: N, Iono, Lillie and Hop. Between them, they have more than 40 Trainer’s Pokémon in the Journey Together card list, from basic Pokémon to powerful ex cards.

Journey Together release date

The Journey Together release date was 28 March 2025. Prerelease events began on 15 March at Play! Pokémon stores, using the Build and Battle Box.

The English set is based on the Japanese expansion Battle Partners, released on 24 January 2025, with extra cards drawn from the Japanese ex Starter Deck Generations. That is why the English card list includes Pokémon such as Blaziken ex and Amoonguss ex that were not in Battle Partners.

How the Journey Together card list works

Cards 001 to 159 make up the main set, and cards 160 to 190 are secret rares. The official line-up includes:

  • 4 Trainer’s Pokémon ex: N’s Zoroark ex, Iono’s Bellibolt ex, Lillie’s Clefairy ex and Hop’s Zacian ex.
  • 16 other Pokémon ex, including Salamence ex, Volcanion ex, Mamoswine ex, Blaziken ex and Reshiram ex.
  • 11 Illustration Rares: including N’s Reshiram, Articuno and Wailord.
  • Ultra Rares: full-art Pokémon ex and Trainer cards.
  • 6 Special Illustration Rares.
  • 3 gold Hyper Rares.

With 31 secret rares, Journey Together is smaller at the top than many Scarlet and Violet sets. That makes each Special Illustration Rare a little easier to pull and the full set more achievable.

Journey Together chase cards

Pokémon Journey Together Booster Bundle

These are the Journey Together chase cards collectors look for first:

1. Lillie’s Clefairy ex Special Illustration Rare (184/159)

The most valuable card in the set. It shows Lillie with her Clefairy in a gentle, heartwarming scene, and it has been the top Journey Together card since release.

2. Salamence ex Special Illustration Rare (187/159)

The only one of the top chases that is not a Trainer’s Pokémon. Salamence’s dramatic artwork has made it a strong number two.

3. N’s Zoroark ex Special Illustration Rare (185/159)

N and Zoroark are one of the most loved pairs from Pokémon Black and White. Their Special Illustration Rare captures the mysterious bond between them.

4. Iono’s Bellibolt ex Special Illustration Rare (183/159)

Iono is one of the breakout characters of the Scarlet and Violet era, and her colourful Special Illustration Rare is a signature card of the set.

5. Hop’s Zacian ex Special Illustration Rare (186/159)

Hop, the rival from Pokémon Sword and Shield, appears with the legendary Zacian. A great card for Galar fans.

6. N’s Reshiram Illustration Rare

The best of the Illustration Rares, and a card many collectors want to pair with N’s Zoroark ex. A stamped version was included as a box topper in the Enhanced Booster Display Box.

Illustration Rares worth pulling

The 11 Illustration Rares are the most common of the secret rares, and several are well worth chasing on their own. N’s Reshiram is the most popular, followed by Articuno, which shows the legendary bird in a shimmering icy landscape, and Wailord, whose huge scale makes for a memorable card.

Because there are only 11 of them, completing the Illustration Rare run is a realistic goal for most collectors. It is a good way to enjoy the set without spending heavily on the Special Illustration Rares.

The Trainer’s Pokémon in Journey Together

Each of the four lead trainers brings a team that plays to a theme:

  • N: Zoroark, Reshiram and other Pokémon from the Unova region.
  • Iono: Electric-type Pokémon led by Bellibolt.
  • Lillie: Pokémon from Alola, led by Clefairy.
  • Hop: Pokémon from Galar, led by Zacian.

For players, Trainer’s Pokémon work especially well with support cards that name the same trainer, so a deck built around N or Iono can lean heavily on this one set. For collectors, they offer a great way to build a binder around a favourite character.

What is in a Journey Together booster pack?

Each English Journey Together booster pack contains a mix of commons, uncommons and at least one rare, plus reverse holo slots and a code card for Pokémon TCG Live. One reverse holo slot can be replaced by an Illustration Rare or better, which is where most secret rares appear.

The Pokémon Company does not publish pull rates. Community estimates suggest each Special Illustration Rare is rare enough that most collectors finish the set with singles.

Journey Together for players

Journey Together had a big effect on competitive play. N’s Zoroark ex became a popular attacker thanks to its ability to discard a card and draw two, and Iono’s Bellibolt ex gave Electric decks a strong new engine. If you play at a local store, the Booster Bundle is a good way to pick up playable Trainer’s Pokémon while chasing the Journey Together chase cards.

Journey Together and Destined Rivals

Pokémon Destined Rivals Half Booster Box, the set after Journey Together

Journey Together started the return of Trainer’s Pokémon, and Destined Rivals finished the job two months later with Team Rocket, Cynthia, Ethan and more. Collected together, the two sets give you every Trainer’s Pokémon of the Scarlet and Violet era.

If you are choosing between them, pick Journey Together for N, Lillie, Iono and Hop, and Destined Rivals for Team Rocket and the classic trainers.

How big is a Journey Together master set?

A master set includes every card plus the reverse holo version of the main-set cards. With 159 main cards, a Journey Together master set comes to roughly 350 cards. Secret rares do not have reverse holo versions.

Tips for collecting the Journey Together card list

  • Collect by trainer. Build a page for each of N, Iono, Lillie and Hop as you open.
  • Use a 9-pocket binder. You need 18 pages for the main set alone.
  • Sleeve every hit. Put Illustration Rares and above into a penny sleeve and top loader straight away.
  • Buy singles for the top card. Lillie’s Clefairy ex is the hardest to find, so buying it is often cheaper than chasing it.

Is Journey Together worth collecting?

Pokémon Destined Rivals 3-Pack Blister

Yes. Journey Together brought back one of the most loved card types in Pokémon history and paired it with some of the best character art of the Scarlet and Violet era. It is a manageable size, and its chase cards cover a lovely mix of trainers and Pokémon.
