Lorcana Winterspell release date

Lorcana Winterspell booster display

Winterspell went on sale at local game stores from 13 February 2026, with the wide release following a week later on 20 February 2026. It followed Whispers in the Well, the last set of 2025, and was followed in May 2026 by Wilds Unknown, the first set to feature Pixar characters.

The Underdog mechanic

The headline new mechanic in Lorcana Winterspell is Underdog. A character with Underdog costs 1 ink less to play if it is your first turn and you are not the first player. In other words, it gives the player going second a small boost to help even out the advantage of going first.

One of the first Underdog cards revealed was Angel, Siren Singer, a two-ink character who also has Singer 3. Played on your first turn as the second player, she costs just one ink, which makes her a strong early pick. Competitive players quickly started testing Underdog cards as early-game staples.

Building a deck with Underdog

Underdog cards reward planning. If you often go second, adding a few cheap Underdog characters gives you a faster start, so you can quest or challenge earlier than usual. They are less useful when you go first, so most players include a handful rather than building a whole deck around them. Pair them with your favourite two inks and test them in a few games to find the right balance.

Boost gets a boost

Winterspell also expanded the Boost mechanic introduced in the previous set, Whispers in the Well, roughly doubling the number of Boost cards in the game. Boost lets you put cards under your characters for extra effects, and Winterspell added many new ways to use them.

A small change to the rules text

Winterspell also tidied up the wording on cards. Putting a card into your inkwell is now simply described as inking it. It is a small change, but it makes cards easier to read, especially for new players.

New franchises in Winterspell

Lorcana Winterspell Collection Starter Set Stitch

Every Lorcana set adds new characters, and Winterspell brought franchises that had not appeared before, alongside winter favourites.

  • Darkwing Duck: including Darkwing Duck, Dashing Gadgeteer and his sidekick Launchpad.
  • Lilo and Stitch: new characters such as Angel, Reuben and Jumba Jookiba.
  • Pocahontas: including the Iconic Pocahontas, Peacekeeper.
  • Frozen: Elsa, Anna and a song card for The Cold Never Bothered Me.

The mix of new and familiar characters makes Winterspell a great set for fans of classic Disney animation and television.

Lorcana Winterspell chase cards

These are the cards collectors chase most in Winterspell:

Iconic cards

Winterspell’s Iconic cards, including Moana, Curious Explorer and Pocahontas, Peacekeeper, use a papercut style inspired by paper snowflake decorations. Iconic is the rarest tier in recent Lorcana sets, and these cards are some of the most striking ever printed.

Enchanted cards

Enchanted cards are full-art versions with a shimmering foil. One of the best known in Winterspell is the Enchanted song card The Cold Never Bothered Me, a nod to Elsa’s famous anthem.

Legendary and Epic cards

Below Enchanted and Iconic, Legendary and Epic cards are also strong pulls, especially for players building competitive decks with the new Underdog and Boost cards.

Winterspell artwork

Many collectors consider Winterspell some of the most beautiful artwork in the game so far. The snowy theme runs through the whole set, with frosty landscapes, winter outfits and festive scenes. If you collect Lorcana for the art, Winterspell is a set to look out for.

What is in a Winterspell booster pack?

Each Lorcana Winterspell booster pack contains 12 cards, including one foil card. A Winterspell booster display holds 24 packs, giving you the best chance at Enchanted and Iconic cards. A full case of four displays contains 96 packs.

Lorcana Winterspell compared with Whispers in the Well

Whispers in the Well, the set before, had a spooky, mysterious theme and introduced Boost. Lorcana Winterspell kept Boost and added many more Boost cards, but swapped the eerie mood for a bright, wintry one. The two sets work well together in decks, and many players combine cards from both. If you enjoyed one, the other is a natural next step.

Winterspell for new players

Lorcana Winterspell is a friendly set for newcomers. Underdog makes the opening turns fairer, and the familiar characters from Frozen and Lilo and Stitch make it easy to get excited about your first deck. If you are completely new, learn the basics with a starter set, then open some Winterspell packs to start building your own deck.

Where Winterspell fits in the Lorcana calendar

Our Lorcana cards guide lists every set in order.

Tips for collecting Lorcana Winterspell

  • Sleeve foils straight away. Enchanted and Iconic cards scratch easily.
  • Collect by franchise. Darkwing Duck and Frozen make great binder pages.
  • Keep the set together. Track cards by their set number.
  • Buy sealed from trusted shops to avoid resealed packs.

Gift ideas for Disney fans

The wintry theme makes this set a natural choice for a festive present. A Collection Starter Set looks great wrapped up and gives a new collector somewhere to keep their cards, while a booster display is the perfect treat for an existing player. For younger fans, pairing a few packs with a two-player starter set means they can open cards and start playing straight away.

Storing and displaying your cards

Foil cards scratch easily, so put any Enchanted, Iconic or Legendary pulls into a penny sleeve and a top loader. A side-loading 9-pocket binder is ideal for the rest of the set, and many collectors arrange their binder by ink colour or by film. Keep binders upright, away from sunlight and damp, so the artwork stays bright for years.
