OP17 release date

One Piece OP17 The World's Strongest Warriors English booster box

The Japanese version of OP17 came out on Saturday 22 August 2026. The English version followed on 28 August 2026, with pre-release events starting on 21 August, a day before the Japanese street date.

That six-day gap is unusually short for a main One Piece set. Earlier main sets usually reached Japanese shops around two weeks before the English version, so OP17 marked a clear change in how Bandai schedules releases.

The OP17 release date also fell inside the game’s fourth-anniversary celebrations, so pre-release events, the set launch and a 4th Anniversary Store Tournament window, which ran from 21 August to 13 September, all overlapped in late summer.

How the OP17 card list is made up

The Japanese OP17 card list has 119 numbered cards. By rarity, they break down like this:

RarityCards
Common45
Uncommon30
Rare26
Super Rare10
Leader6
Secret Rare2

By card type, that is 6 Leaders, 95 Characters, 17 Events and 1 Stage. On top of the numbered cards there are parallel versions, special inserts reprinted from earlier sets and a Treasure Rare, which is why the English product page lists 131+4 card types in total.

The two Secret Rares are Rocks D. Xebec, his first card in the game, and Loki, the giant prince of Elbaf. A third Secret Rare slot is filled by a comic-style reprint of an earlier Monkey D. Luffy card, which can be pulled from OP17 packs but is not part of the 119.

All six One Piece OP17 Leaders

One Piece OP17 has six Leaders, one for each colour. All six share the same base stats, 5 Life and 5000 power, and each is tied to one of the crews from the set’s theme.

For players, the headline is Kaido. His OP17 Leader is his first new Leader card since the 2022 starter deck, so Kaido fans finally have fresh options. Rocks D. Xebec is the other big story, because he had never had a card of any kind before this set.

New rarities in OP17

Japanese One Piece OP-17 The World's Strongest Warriors booster box

OP17 introduced two new parallel treatments, and both have quickly become major chases.

Super Leader Parallel

For the first time in the game’s history, every Leader in the set has its own parallel version. The OP17 Super Leader Parallels use a bold close-up design, and Shanks in particular has proved popular with collectors.

Pirate Crew Super Parallel

This is the rarest new treatment. The Monkey D. Luffy Leader has a Pirate Crew Super Parallel as well as a Super Leader Parallel, making it the only OP17 Leader with two parallel tiers. It is widely seen as the set’s headline chase card. The Rocks D. Xebec Secret Rare also has a Pirate Crew Super Parallel.

Manga Rares for the Four Emperors

The original Four Emperors, Whitebeard, Shanks, Kaido and Big Mom, all received manga-style Super Parallel versions of their Super Rare cards. Manga Rares are always among the most wanted cards in a One Piece set, and having all four Emperors in one set is a big draw.

What is in an OP17 booster box?

An English One Piece OP17 booster box holds 24 packs, and each English pack contains 12 cards. Japanese boxes also hold 24 packs, but Japanese packs are smaller, with 6 cards each, so a Japanese box contains fewer cards in total.

Most packs give you commons, uncommons and rares, with Super Rares, Leaders and parallels spread across the box. The set also includes 4 DON!! cards, the resource cards every deck needs, and special versions of DON!! are popular with collectors too.

OP17 chase cards

These are the cards collectors look for first when opening One Piece OP17:

  • Monkey D. Luffy Leader, Pirate Crew Super Parallel: the top chase of the set.
  • Manga Rares of the Four Emperors: Whitebeard, Shanks, Kaido and Big Mom.
  • Rocks D. Xebec Secret Rare: his first card, plus its Pirate Crew Super Parallel.
  • Loki Secret Rare: the giant prince at the heart of the Elbaf arc.
  • Super Leader Parallels: all six, with Shanks and Luffy usually the most popular.
  • The Treasure Rare: a parallel of Lucky Roux.

Bandai does not publish pull rates for One Piece boxes, so be careful with any odds you see quoted online. They are estimates from community openings and can vary a lot.

Super Rares in the OP17 card list

The ten Super Rares read like a list of the set’s biggest names. Kaido has two of them, and Whitebeard, Shanks, Big Mom and Luffy all have one. Four of the Super Rares, those of Whitebeard, Shanks, Kaido and Big Mom, are the cards that also come as Manga Rares, which makes them the ones to check twice when you open a pack.

English or Japanese OP17?

Both versions share the same artwork, but they suit different buyers.

  • English OP17 is the one to buy if you play at UK stores, because English cards are used in local tournaments. English packs have 12 cards each. Shop the English OP-17 booster box.
  • Japanese OP17 came out first and is popular with collectors for its print quality and smaller packs of 6 cards. Shop the Japanese OP-17 booster box.
  • Korean One Piece boxes are another option for collectors. Browse our Korean One Piece cards.

Tips for opening One Piece OP17

One Piece OP17 sits alongside earlier English sets like the OP-15 booster box
  • Sleeve parallels straight away. Super Leader Parallels, Manga Rares and Secret Rares should go into a penny sleeve and top loader as soon as they leave the pack.
  • Check the card number. Parallel versions share a number with the normal card, so look at the artwork and finish to tell them apart.
  • Keep Leaders together. If you plan to play, sort the six Leaders and their matching colour cards as you open.
  • Store boxes flat and dry. Sealed boxes keep best away from sunlight and damp, especially if you are keeping one unopened.

If you are collecting earlier sets as well, our English booster boxes range includes other One Piece main sets.

Is One Piece OP17 worth buying?

If you like the Four Emperors, the answer is yes. OP17 puts Whitebeard, Shanks, Kaido and Big Mom in the same set, adds two new parallel rarities and gives players six fresh Leaders to build around. It is one of the most collectable main sets the game has released, and because it is a main set rather than a special release, it is likely to stay in demand with players too.

If you are on a budget, start with a few packs or a single booster box rather than chasing a specific parallel. The top cards are rare, and buying them as singles is usually cheaper than opening box after box.

How OP17 fits the anniversary sets

OP17 is the first of two fourth-anniversary main sets. The second is OP18, The Dominance of God, which moves the story towards Water Seven and the Holy Knights. If you are collecting both, our OP18 release date guide sets out the dates, and you can pre-order the OP-18 booster box now. See every upcoming release on our pre-orders page.
